Video 4 May

Tonight my buddy Jordan and I are heading down to DB Cooper’s in Downtown KC, hopefully we run into our grandfather (watch the video).

If you’re in KC tonight come by and say hi to us!

Text 25 Mar Dating, OKCupid, and more.

Over the past few weeks I’ve been out with a few ladies, I’ve had some promising encounters and some epic fails, I’ve never really dated before, I’ve gone on dates, but those immediately led to a relationship.

Date 1

The first date I went on post breakup was with a girl who works in an office where I work, she’s absolutely stunning.  From day one when she started I knew she liked me, or at least she acted like she did and I really hoped it was true, she has kids, boo.  She wanted to go to a Mexican place, somewhere cheap, I didn’t mind that suggestion but this date occurred just after a major snow storm so I wanted to stay close to our building since we were going on a lunch date on working days.  We went to Pierpont’s inside of Union Station, this is a pretty high priced fancy place, I was hoping that the date would be a sure thing like all of my others had been, in the middle of the date she tells me that she has a boyfriend, interesting twist in the storyline there.  She’s still gorgeous and is now (as of today) single again but I don’t know if I want to get into anything serious with her anymore.

Date 2

Date 2 was a girl I met on OKCupid, she was very nice, laughed at every joke I told, even the ones that were based on more taboo subjects and obviously had a good time.  A few days later I invited her to see one of my favorite bands, she agreed so we went out again.  I was digging her like crazy we talked via text more than I’ve talked to anyone in years, over 1000 texts went back and forth in a week’s time. That night after the show she told me that she was talking to another guy who had gotten super upset that she wasn’t responding to him, I didn’t know if I should be hurt or if I should be awesome that I had seemingly won the battle against this guy.  I let it pass. A few nights later she was telling me about her vibrators and what method of birth control she was on, sending me obvious signals.  Both craving social contact with her and being sick of living with my family I asked her if she wanted to get a hotel room, I believe this obviously was received in a very different context than how I intended.  i joked about it several times with her assuming she would be laughing.  Six days had gone by since our first date, she asked if we could hangout that night, I said I had to work the next morning really early so I’d have to pass, she called me a pussy, so I was going to give in, she ended up drinking and playing World of Warcraft. That night something funny happened, I was out to dinner with family and she sent me a text that said “I’m practically stalking you”.  This message made me overjoyed, this girl really liked me, I hadn’t felt liked by a female companion in years!!  The next day, and 7th day since we originally went out I came prepared, a change of clothes so I could immediately see her after I left work, I didn’t hear from her for most of the morning.  I called her after a few texts and told her I was heading home, but if she’d call back I’d turn around and head over to her place or somewhere we could meet.  I made it home and heard from her shortly after, I joked that she was on a date with someone else.  Later on that evening she said I was coming on too strong for her and needed to “chill out for a bit”.  We haven’t talked all that much since, kinda sad.  When you send out a ton of mixed signals and act nutty these things happen though I guess.

Date 3

Date 3 was another OKCupid girl, I asked to take her to breakfast, I’ve noticed something since my jump into online dating, girls aren’t using current pictures when they go out, this girl was one of them, that wasn’t a factor however in the outcome of this.  This girl was very negative and nasty about everyone in the restaurant but us, talking about the old man behind her who was moving the back of their shared booth seatback, rolling her eyes and sighing loudly everytime the dude moved, this was off putting enough but she then just went on a roll, “look at that guy”, “can you believe people sometimes”.  It was too much for me, I’m not a college basketball fan at all but they had ESPN on there and man I was into the action, it definitely beat out what was happening in real life in front of me.  She was a nasty woman, I’m hoping I don’t run into her again any time soon.

Those are my dating stories so far, it’s been an interesting experience, I enjoy chatting with people about it here at work.

New Apartment

My new place is shaping up to be pretty awesome I’m enjoying it so far.

This is my living room area, shelves, so exciting, I started to alphabetize the movies and games but after about 20 minutes I gave up.

Finally put up my 25th anniversary BTTF poster, I’ve had it since 2010.

Also finally put these posters up, gifts from old friends.

Skinny seems to be pretty happy in our new place, although obviously lonely without Buddy or Cleo around, she’s very vocal now crying out for the other cats.

Keep in touch guys, chris@nothingboard.com

Not sure how many people know but I’m a single guy, have been for a month or more, I’m moving starting next week….

This isn’t a subtle way of me asking for moving help… ;)

Text 8 Feb My Gadget Addiction

My gadget addiction probably started when I bought a PSP, or perhaps when I first saw the PSP on it’s launch day in 2005, I couldn’t believe such brilliant graphics were possible on such a small device…

I finally got a PSP in 2007, it was an amazing experience with a library 2 years deep to plow through.  The system seller to me was Sid Meier’s Pirates, probably not a story you’ll hear from too many people.

I owned at least 3 psps, either handing them down or losing them, replacing them and finding it later.  I had the original PSP, piano black, the silver psp, and then the PSP 3000 piano black which now rests downstairs on a coffee table gathering dust in my basement.

My next big gadget purchase was the T-Mobile G1, a group of friends and I all threw in on the same night and got ours in the mail on the launch day, which luckily was a day off.  I laid on the couch and stared at this device for hours, tweaking settings, checking through the limited selection of apps, (soundboards and fart apps).  This was a mind blowing experience, That phone lasted me roughly 2 years, I loved it, I still do, I’ve had at least 3 Android phones since that one but the difference is I know exactly where my G1 is.

My next Android device was the HTC manufactured T-Mobile Mytouch 3g Slide, a phone that I had lusted over for months, it looked like an updated G1 in a lot of ways.  When I read on Engadget that it had a custom overlay called “Espresso” I felt like I got kicked in the chest. So began my interest in “rooting and romming”.  The problem with the 3G Slide was that it was made of cheapish plastic, like the kind a kid’s toy might be made out of, so when it was dropped the hollow plastic would crack, chip and just break off.  I didn’t mind this though, I just bought a case that covered the chips and lost plastic and used it anyway, it was running CyanogenMOD 7, it was a great fit for me.  Then the screen stopped working, I’d have to cover the entire screen with my hand to get it to accurately recognize where I was touching.

My next move was The LG G2X phone, I was warned not to get this because it reset randomly and often, I ignored those warnings because of the fact that it was the least overlayed Android phone on the market (on T-Mobile) at the time, I took it home, it started resetting, no problem, I rooted it and installed CyanogenMOD on it, still kept resetting, so we had to return it.

I then tried the heavily Sense themed HTC Sensation 4G. I never have rooted the Sensation, the evolution of better Launcher apps has kept that urge down, I use NOVA Launcher currently. The Sensation has served me relatively well for the 2 years of use I’ve given it, but it lacks the magic I felt with the G1, I haven’t felt the same about any phone since.  Every phone I’ve had since 2010 has been a dramatic improvement on the G1, but the feeling of amazement is gone.

There is a device that to me rekindles the amazing discovery and wonder that the G1 initially filled me with and that’s the Playstation Vita.  Say what you want about the sales figures and the speed of game launches this device blows me away everytime I turn it on and start a game, check facebook/twitter, watch netflix, make a video call on skype or earn a trophy.  I ask that everyone that is a fan of Sony, video games, and handheld gaming start saving up for this thing, the slow sales have been reportedly scaring off publishers, it’d be nice to get a few more of these guys out in the wild, it’ll blow your mind I promise.

My history of Android tablets is a little messier, we’ll get to that another time, thanks for reading.

Text 28 Jan Sum 41 12 years later…

The first time I saw Sum 41 was on May 8th, 2001 in Springfield Mo, they were opening up for The Offspring at a country bar, interesting surroundings for sure.

I have some very interesting Sum 41 related memories, I figured I’d post them here.

After the concert in May, my friend Rick and I were driving home back to Edgar Springs, the middle of nowhere.  We stopped for gas in Waynesville Mo, as we were leaving the gas station I did the same thing to my dumpy 88 Ford Ranger that I had done often enough to completely ruin my  first car, I “neutral dropped” it.

I didn’t realize that there was a police officer sitting right around the corner, who proceeded to pull me over shortly after I pulled back onto I-44 headed back home, I can’t remember the specifics but there was some curiosity about the insurance and title of the truck I was in, my dad had just previously bought it at an auction from my Grandma, so I don’t believe the names matched.  I was asked to sit inside of the police cruiser (my first and only time) while he called my dad to verify my story, it was 1 or 2 am.  That was pretty embarrassing, but I got a warning for being “Careless and Imprudent”.

I saw Sum 41 again at the Warped Tour later that Summer with another group of friend, it was exciting to see a bunch of young kids our age being that successful.

Halloween rolled around and they were back in St Louis a the Mississippi Nights venue, my friend Rick and I decided to attend this event, we didn’t buy tickets in advance which in hindsight seeing as how it was Halloween was really stupid.  On the drive up I had the brilliant idea of taking a side route, a route that I had found weeks prior on a trip to St Louis, we got lost for hours, we finally made it to St Louis and parked only to see a sign that said “SOLD OUT” near the door.  We were bummed out and had nothing to do so we just walked around Laclede’s Landing and laughed about our shitty luck that we shared.

My last Sum 41 memory comes from Ty Smith, an amazingly talented musician who at the time was the drummer for the long running punk band Guttermouth, we were talking on MSN Messenger he said that the guys from Sum 41 were practically begging Guttermouth to go on a Canadian tour with them, I told him I thought this was a great idea since I had admired Sum 41’s drummer Steve Jocz for quite a while.  I thought this would spark up some drum conversation about how perhaps Ty liked him as well, Ty’s response however was something like “It’s cool, I won’t tell anyone you like Sum 41.”  As far as I know they never have toured together.

Tonight should be a good walk down memory lane in Lawrence KS.

Text 7 Jan Coming up on a week now

Hey,

It’s been nearly a week since we said goodbye, what an interesting week it’s been.  I still click the Nothing Board link in my bookmark bar habitually all the time only to remember it’s a Tumblr page now not an actual forum.  I’ve also found myself thinking “remember the time when”  and then having to remind myself that while I do have the database files that powered the board looking through them is definitely no easy task.

I hope everyone has a great new year, follow this page to stay in touch.

Text 2 Jan The end of an era.

The forum is gone, unfortunately, I lost the Ryan podcast, if anyone has this please let me know.
